THE VIRUS

Nobody is sure of the true origins of the virus. There are some rumors going around that it started in Japan, and spread to the U.S. via airlines. And there are also rumors that the CDC might have been onto something regarding the virus's origin, before contact was lost. But rumors are just that, rumors. At least, most of the time...
It has been called several different things, "The Fever" "The Sickness" "Blood Flu" "Death Cough" to just "The Infection".
It's transmitted via bodily fluids, more often than not a bite. But getting infected material in ones eyes/nose/mouth/open wound etc. will also lead to infection.
Only things over 50lbs can turn, anything bellow that weight will either just carry the virus, or die and not reanimate.
Once infected, it takes around two hours for the virus to kill and reanimate it's host. The main symptom of the virus is a fever, which leads to the host overheating and the eventual death of the host. Other symptoms include: Delirium, bloody nose, coughing up blood, vomiting, and blood in vomit.
While there is no know cure, it has been discovered that those with the Type-O blood type are immune to the virus! They can still get the virus if bitten, but the the symptoms don't worsen to the point that they kill the host. But there is a downside to this, once bitten, even though they aren't turned, a Type-O still carries the virus. Thay are contagious, and a bite from one can infect just as easily as a bite from a zombie...

THE INFECTED

Shamblers:
These are the most common of the infected. out during he day and night, and never able to go faster than a walk, or a quick shamble. Most are pretty decomposed at this points, missing limbs, and have large gashes gunshots or other injuries across their bodies. More often than not found in hoards of five to twenty. Easy to kill and pick off with silent weapons or traps, but also easy to get overwhelmed by. Drawn in by sound.

Runners:
Also known as Nightrunners, as they only come out after the sun's down. A grotesque mutation of the virus, they have torn off all their skin and muscles on their jaws, lower arms from the elbows down, and hands, leaving nothing but razor sharp bone and tendons. They are faster then any of the other infected, and if in a hoard of five or more they grow in intelligence, and start displaying pack-hunting behavior. They don't hunt to kill and eat, they hunt to INFECT. They will maul a survivor, then leave them to turn, however if someone is a Type-O immune, they seem to be able to sense it somehow, and will just try to violently slaughter and rip them apart instead. They are, however, nocturnal. And hide during the day in dark places like abandoned buildings. They are also VERY sensitive to bright lights.

Pukers:
Rarely out day or night, the Puker might just appear to be a particularly disgusting Shambler at first glance, but is much faster. They're slightly bloated, and their fronts are coated in their own vomit, and they seem to just vomit back up anything they eat. They will run to a survivor and try to spit onto their faces, and smear their vomit on them, trying to infect instead of kill.

Screamers:
Most Screamers are small, and appear to be reanimated children. They will run from a survivor emitting a high pitched screech, either drawing in a hoard, or trying to lure away the survivor into a hoard.

These types of zombies sound like the ones from Left For Dead 2, is that what inspired them? If you don't mind me asking.
